Impacting lives of women through innovative technology

Complicated issues of infant and child mortality and morbidity need to be addressed innovatively for Maximum positive impact A timed and targeted behaviour change communication is necessary to motivate people to adopt better antenatal, perinatal and infancy care practices. Innovation being our impetus and understanding this background along with our NGO Partner, Armman and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital, Mumbai), we have initiated the mMitra project, a technology based solution to provide the right preventive healthcare information.

Building on the success in Sion Hospital Mumbai, we have extended the initiative to Aurangabad and Nashik. We are the first to launch such an initiative in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra

mMitra is a free mobile based voice messaging service that provides timed and powerful bytes of comprehensive information to pregnant and new mothers on antenatal and neonatal care. Voice messages of 60-90 seconds (145 messages in all) in Hindi/Marathi are sent to mobiles of each enrolled woman twice weekly during pregnancy and once every day in the first week after birth. This service continues with one message per week till the child is one year old. These messages are medically verified and relevant to the gestational age of the pregnancy.
